DR. MARC KALLAL,
DOCTOR OF OPTOMETRY
Dr. Kallal grew up in Tofield, a small town 40 minutes east of Edmonton. He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Alberta where he received a double major in physical and biological sciences. From his time living in Lister, to the long hours in Rutherford Library, Dr. Kallal has very fond memories of the U of A and enjoys providing eye care to many of the students, staff, and faculty that visit Varsity Optical.
He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry. He was actively involved in leading edge dry eye research and enjoys helping patients alleviate their dry eye problems. Dr. Kallal excelled in his clinical skills and received the Vision Service Plan award for clinical excellence.
As a student Optometrist Dr. Kallal was actively involved in the student association where he served as Trustee and then as Executive Council Treasurer of the American Optometric Student Association. In these roles Dr. Kallal spearheaded many positive changes in the association and the profession. For his efforts, Dr. Kallal received the Founders Award from the American Optometric Student Association and the Al Dennis Student Leadership award from the Southern California College of Optometry.
Dr. Kallal is currently a member of the Ocular Nutrition Society, the Alberta Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists. Dr. Kallal is actively involved in the Rotary Club, and in his spare times enjoys hockey, running, golfing and exploring the world with his wife and two daughters Rory and Ileana.
DR. TIFFANY LIM,
DOCTOR OF OPTOMETRY
Born and raised in Edmonton, Dr. Tiffany Lim started out her optometric degree on the icy campus of the University of Alberta. She then went to Chicago and received her Doctor of Optometry Degree from the Illinois College of Optometry where she graduated with honours.
During her clinical rotations, Dr. Lim took the opportunity to travel and live in various areas of the United States. She has had extensive exposure to ocular pathologies while working at the Illinois Eye Institute, the Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Rhode Island, and the University of Kentucky Department of Ophthalmology in Lexington. She also has experience in pediatric care and specialty contact lenses at family practices located in both Chicago, Illinois and Austin, Texas.
As the youngest of a family that immigrated from Brunei, Dr. Tiffany Lim believes in giving back to the community and helping the underprivileged. During her training, Dr. Lim volunteered with the Lion's Club to provide services to developmentally disabled children during the annual Special Olympics event held in Illinois. She worked as a chair on her school's Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity committee and has served on a missions trip to Belize. When she's not working, Dr. Lim enjoys spending time with her family and friends, trying new DIY projects, and exploring small towns.
Dr. Lim is able to provide eye exams in Mandarin.
DR. JESSICA LAM,
DOCTOR OF OPTOMETRY
Dr. Jessica Lam began her post-secondary education in her hometown of Calgary before completing her Doctor of Optometry at Pacific University in Portland, Oregon.
After graduating in 2017, Dr. Lam completed her residency in corneal disease and specialty contact lenses at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.
She appreciates the opportunity to meet and interact with unique individuals while she practices Optometry, and strives to provide the best patient care from routine eye examinations to specialty treatments using contact lenses.
Dr. Lam stays active throughout the year by practicing yoga, hiking and snowboarding. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband and their wiener dog, Jasper.
DR. SAMANTHA SPERBER,
DOCTOR OF OPTOMETRY
Dr. Samantha Sperber grew up on her family farm west of Ponoka.
She obtained her BSc from MacEwan University in 2013 as the recipient of the MacEwan Presidents Medal for Academic Excellence and Student Leadership.
In 2017, she graduated from Pacific University. She holds optometric board certifications in Canada and the United States. Dr. Sperber has a special interest in vision and learning, pediatrics and neuro-visual training, and is currently completing further post-graduate studies in these areas.
She is an active volunteer both locally and globally and has travelled worldwide providing volunteer eye care to underprivileged communities. She is also a member of both the Alberta and Canadian Association of Optometrists, the Alberta College of Optometrists and the Optometric Extensions Program Foundation.
In her free time, Dr. Sperber enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, hiking, working on the family farm and traveling.
DR. JEANETTE TRAC,
DOCTOR OF OPTOMETRY
Dr. Jeanette Trac was born and raised in Edmonton. She pursued her undergraduate studies at the University of Alberta and even worked as an optometric assistant at Varsity Optical during her studies!
She then moved to the vibrant city of Boston, where she obtained her Doctorate of Optometry with clinical honors from the New England College of Optometry.
Dr. Trac completed her clinical rotations in various private practices, community health centers, specialty contact lens clinics and hospitals, including the Jamaica Plain VA Medical Center and Boston Medical Center. While in Optometry school, she volunteered through the Lion’s Club, Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity and the Perkins School for the Blind. She also served as VP Finance on the executive team that founded the school’s first Canadian Association of Optometry Students organization.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with friends/family, playing volleyball, listening to podcasts and traveling! Dr. Trac finds joy in meeting patients and taking part in enhancing their visual health and wellness. She has a special interest in myopia control and orthokeratology. She has extensive experience with orthokeratology (orthoK) for treatment of myopia and myopia control. Her patients travel from all parts of Alberta to seek her care and expertise and she looks forward to providing her expertise to many more patients.
Dr. Trac is a member of the Alberta College of Optometrists, Alberta Association of Optometrists, Ocular Wellness and Nutrition Society, Scleral Lens Education Society, and American Academy of Orthokeratology & Myopia Control.
